The Delhi Gate at Arcot is a fortification gate or watch tower kind of building which was built by Robert Clive in 1751, on the banks of Palar River. He built it as a mark for his first capture, Delhi. The entrance of this gate was built like a Mogul arch, using18th Century Architecture. Occasionally this Delhi gate has been used as a Jail. It is considered that Robert Clive used to take highly important decisions in the upper room near the big doorway of stone slab with dedication. The attraction became part of the munition of Arcot during its unforgettable defense by Lord Clive in 1751.

History

Delhi Gate is the entrance gate which is named after the famous Delhi Gate in Delhi. When Robert Clive in 1751 overcame Arcot during the battle between British East India Company and French for the control of South India, he built this Gate as a mark of his Victory
